Russell Read arrived at 7 am and looked with love over Charm. As I spoke with him I began to appreciate that he had played a major role in restoring Charm to the superb condition she was now in. He'd spent a small fortune having the hull professionally repaired and calked before having her taken to his Oxfordshire back garden where he continued to do the bulk of the restoration work himself. It was marvellous that after Robert bought her, the pair had become friends. By 8.32 am, when the above photograph of Russell was taken, Robert was getting twitchy; it was high tide and we needed to be off.
